President Stresses Closer Iran-EU Ties in Post-JCPOA Era

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani called for efforts to use the 2015 nuclear deal between Tehran and world powers, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), as an opportunity to boost the Islamic Republic’s relations with the European Union.

Speaking at a meeting with Iran’s new ambassador to France in Tehran on Wednesday, President Rouhani stressed the need for Iranian ambassadors’ efforts to promote ties with foreign countries.

He also said his administration is resolved to deepen relations with other nations based on mutual respect and common interests.

Rouhani further highlighted the necessity for using the opportunities created in the post-JCPOA era for closer cooperation with the EU in various economic areas.

The remarks come against the backdrop of a new wave of interest in ties with Iran after Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) on July 14, 2015 reached a conclusion over the text of the comprehensive 159-page deal on Tehran's nuclear program and started implementing it on January 16, 2016.

The JCPOA terminated all nuclear-related sanctions imposed on Iran.
