Iran Beats Italy at FIVB Volleyball U-19 World Championship

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran defeated Italy 3-2 (25-16, 23-25, 23-25, 25-19, 15-12) in its first match at the 2017 FIVB Volleyball Boy’s U-19 World Championship on Saturday at Isa City Sports Hall.

Iran’s Porya Yali led all scorers with 29 points from 25 attacks, two blocks and two aces. Amirhossein Esfandiar also stood out with 22 points, to annex Iran’s offensive armory.

Iran will play Mexico on Sunday in Pool D.

The tournament is being hosted by Bahrain in the cities of Riffa and Isa Town from 18 to 27 August 2017.

Host Bahrain is in Pool A, with the USA, Puerto Rico, Egypt and Tunisia. Pool B consists of Poland, Brazil, Cuba, Japan and France. Argentina, silver medalist in 2015 has been drawn in Pool C, along with Russia, China, Korea and Turkey. Pool D features Iran, European heavyweight Italy, Mexico, China and the Czech Republic.
