Diplomats Discuss Iran-Russia Ties

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s envoy to Moscow and a deputy foreign minister of Russia held a meeting to talk about the status of relations between the two countries.

Iran’s Ambassador to Moscow Mahdi Sanai and Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Vladimirovich Morgulov met at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation on Tuesday.

In the meeting, the two diplomats discussed the latest developments in the expansion of Tehran-Moscow relations and exchanged views on an agenda for the bilateral political ties.

Morgulov is responsible for Russia’s relations with East and South Asia and the multilateral cooperation in the Asia Pacific Region.

Since coming into force in January 2016 of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), a nuclear deal between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany), Tehran and Moscow have ramped up efforts to boost bilateral trade.

Iran and Russia have also formed a strong alliance in recent years, with both supporting the Syrian government against foreign-backed militancy.
