TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani plans to start his trip to Kazakhstan on Saturday to meet with senior officials of the Central Asian country and participate in a summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

Heading a high-ranking delegation, President Rouhani will leave Tehran for Astana on Saturday to take part in the First OIC Summit on Science and Technology due to open in the Kazakh capital on Sunday, the deputy head for communications and information at the Iranian president’s office, Parviz Esmaeili, told Tasnim.

Rouhani is slated to deliver a speech at the OIC summit and meet with some heads of state of the Muslim countries during his two-day visit to Kazakhstan, he said.

The Iranian president also plans to hold talks with his Kazakh counterpart, Nursultan Nazarbayev, on a range of issues, including ways to boost bilateral relations between the two countries and the latest developments in the region and the world, Esmaeili said.

In a meeting in Tehran last month, foreign ministers of Iran and Kazakhstan discussed ways to promote economic, political, and cultural cooperation between the two countries.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his Kazakh counterpart, Kairat Abdrakhmanov, weighed plans for the expansion of banking ties between Tehran and Astana, closer scientific and technological cooperation, joint efforts in tackling dust pollution, and cooperation in the transportation industry.
