Turkey’s President, Top General Due in Iran
TEHRAN (Tasnim) - President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the country’s Chief of the General Staff Hulusi Akar are going to pay a visit to Iran in a few days, Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim announced.
President Tayyip Erdogan will discuss with Tehran their response to the Iraqi Kurdish independence referendum when he visits Iran next week with the Turkish chief of staff, Yildirim said on Monday, in an interview broadcast on multiple Turkish television channels.
His comments came after Erdogan had a telephone conversation with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on Sunday and voiced concern that the independence referendum in Iraq’s Kurdistan region would cause regional chaos.
Erdogan is expected to visit Iran on October 4.
While Iraq’s Kurds have rushed headlong into a vote for independence on Monday, neighbors and countries in the Middle East, including Iran and Turkey, have voiced opposition to the vote.
