TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Iranian Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission announced that the commission backs “any countermeasure” taken by the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) against the US military forces.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the parliamentary commission condemned “the unwise thinking” of US President Donald Trump and his recent “rude comments” about the designation of the IRGC as a terrorist group.

"If the stupid comments are realized, the commission will support any countermeasure taken by the IRGC against the American forces, who are supporters of terrorist groups…,” the statement read.

The IRGC has the right to treat the US forces similar to the way it treats terrorist groups, the lawmakers added in the statement.

Trump is expected on October 15 to “decertify” a landmark 2015 international deal about Iran’s nuclear program, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

Trump is also expected to designate the IRGC as a terrorist organization, as he rolls out a broader, more hawkish US strategy on Iran.

In comments on Sunday, IRGC Commander Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari said if speculations about the US administration’s “stupid decision” to designate the IRGC as a terrorist organization are true, the IRGC will in turn treat the US military around the world, particularly in the Middle East, as Daesh (ISIL) forces.
