Italian Firms Willing to Boost Cooperation with Iran in Diverse Fields: Minister

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Italy’s Finance Minister Pier Carlo Padoan highlighted Rome’s determination to promote bilateral ties with Tehran and said Italian companies are willing to forge closer cooperation with the Islamic Republic in various areas.

Speaking at a meeting with Iranian Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance Massoud Karbasian in the US capital on Friday, Padoan said closer Tehran-Rome financial ties will pave the ground for closer technical cooperation between the two countries.

He further emphasized that Italian companies are eager to expand cooperation with the Iranian side in diverse spheres.

Karbasian, for his part, said bilateral trade between the two countries has tripled in the first six months of 2017, compared to the same period last year.

He also stressed the need for further efforts to deepen the economic relations between Tehran and Rome.

Karbasian has traveled to Washington, DC, to attend the annual meeting of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group (WBG).

During his stay in the US capital, the Iranian economy minister is scheduled to hold meetings with a number of his foreign counterparts.

Each year, the gathering brings together central bankers, ministers of finance and development, private sector executives, and academics to discuss issues of global concern, including the world economic outlook, poverty eradication, economic development, and aid effectiveness.

This year’s events is underway in the US capital, on October 9-15.
