“Neither the IRGC nor any other unit of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Armed Forces could be slapped with sanctions by any organization,” Rapporteur of the Iranian Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Hossein Naqavi Hosseini told Tasnim on Saturday.
His comments came after US President Donald Trump announced a new strategy for Iran on Friday which he said begins with imposing tough sanctions on the IRGC.
Elsewhere in his remarks, the Iranian lawmaker hailed the IRGC as a beacon of hope for all nations in the region, reminding the US that such hostile moves could by no means harm unity between the Iranian establishment and nation.
Following Trump’s hawkish speech on Friday, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said the US president would soon come to realize that he, like his predecessors, will never be able to intimidate the Iranian nation using "threats" and "profanity".
