Trump Harming US Credibility: Iran’s FM

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said US President Donald Trump has harmed America’s credibility, saying that no country will engage in any long-term negotiation with Washington in the future as it cannot honor its international commitments.

"Nobody else will trust any US administration to engage in any long-term negotiation because the length of any commitment, the duration of any commitment from now on with any US administration would be the remainder of the term of that president," Zarif said in an interview with CBS news on Saturday.

When asked about other potential fallout from the White House's change of position like Boeing's ambition to sell Iran 80 new planes, he said as far he's concerned Iran has no quarrel with American businesses.

On regional developments, Zarif said, "I believe the Trump administration is closing its eyes on the realities of our region. We believe it will be important for the United States, for the Trump administration, to exercise a reset in its cognitive disorder with regard to our region".

His remarks came after Trump, speaking from the White House on Friday, said he would not recertify that Tehran is complying with the 2015 nuclear agreement.

The president is required by US law to certify every 90 days whether or not Iran is complying with the nuclear deal. He has certified the deal twice since coming to office.
