In a statement on Sunday, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi denounced the fatal attacks and expressed condolences to the Somali people and families of victims of the blasts.

The death toll from the twin bombing attacks in Mogadishu rose to 189 on Sunday as emergency crews pulled more bodies from burned cars and demolished buildings after the Saturday blasts, which left scenes of carnage and devastation.

Another 250 people were wounded in the blast, which occurred at a busy intersection.

Somalia’s President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed Farmaajo declared three days of national mourning starting on Sunday.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attacks.
