Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his Ugandan counterpart Sam Kutesa attended the opening ceremony of the joint complex.

“Ties between Iran and Uganda are very strong, and we are eager to strengthen cooperation in various economic fields,” Zarif told reporters at the event.

Highlighting the significance that Iran attaches to close interaction with the African states, Zarif noted that his entourage includes heads of major Iranian businesses and representatives of the companies engaged in production, agriculture, research, banking industry, auto manufacturing and shipping industry who are willing to hold talks with the Ugandan corporations.

The senior diplomat arrived in Kampala on Tuesday after visiting South Africa.

Heading a political and economic delegation, the Iranian minister is going to visit Niger in the final leg of his African tour.

Expansion of relations with African nations in the political, economic and cultural fields have been top on the agenda of Iran’s foreign policy.
