Iran Fails to Advance to FIBA U-16 Women's Asia Championship Final

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran lost to Malaysia 85-68 and failed to book a spot at the Division B of the FIBA U-16 Women's Asia Championship final.

The Iranian team will play loser of India and Kazakhstan in the third-placed match on Saturday.

Iran started the competition with an 89-32 win over Nepal but lost to host India 97-53 in its second match.

Iran overpowered Sri Lanka 84-76 and also beat the Maldives 129-30 to book a place in the semi-final.

For Division B, the Champion will earn the right to be promoted to the next championship, replacing the last-placed (eighth placer) team from Division A.

The 2017 FIBA Asia U-16 Championship for Women is the qualifying tournament for FIBA Asia at the 2018 FIBA U-17 World Championship for Women.
