Iran Has Fulfilled All Obligations under JCPOA: UN Nuclear Chief
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Visiting Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Yukiya Amano reiterated Iran’s compliance with its commitments under the nuclear deal between the country and six world powers, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
Speaking at a meeting with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani in Tehran on Sunday, the head of the UN nuclear watchdog described the JCPOA as a very good agreement.
Today, based on joint efforts made by Iran and the IAEA, the agency can declare that the Islamic Republic has fulfilled all its obligations under international regulations and the deal, Amano said.
He also underlined that the majority of high-ranking officials of countries around the world strongly support the nuclear deal, adding that all parties’ adherence to the JCPOA has a vital role in the future of the agreement.
Amano arrived in the Iranian capital on Saturday evening to hold talks with senior officials of the country on the implantation process of the JCPOA.
The visit comes as US President Donald Trump, in a major confrontational stance against Iran, refused to certify the multilateral deal on Tehran’s peaceful nuclear program.
Speaking from the White House on October 13, Trump said he will choose not to certify that Tehran is complying with the agreement.
Since the historic deal was signed in Vienna, the IAEA has repeatedly confirmed the Islamic Republic’s compliance with its commitments under the JCPOA, but some other parties, especially the US, have failed to live up to their undertakings.
