Ayatollah Khamenei Censures Trump’s ‘Foolish’ Anti-Iran Remarks

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei slammed US President Donald Trump for calling Iran a “terrorist nation”, saying such a stance indicates Washington’s deep grudge and hostility toward not only the Islamic Establishment, but also the people of Iran.

“This foolish remark (by the US president) shows that not only Americans have enmity with Iran’s leadership and government, but even they hold grudges and hostility toward the very existence of a tireless and resistant nation,” Ayatollah Khamenei said on Thursday, addressing thousands of students from all over the nation on the eve of the National Day in the Fight Against Global Arrogance.

They are unable to understand the fact that a nation with such a rich historical and cultural background cannot be rooted out, the Leader added.

Stressing that US officials’ continued enmity against the Islamic Republic of Iran does not allow them to open their eyes to the realities, Ayatollah Khamenei said they started their animosity toward Iran from day one of the victory of the Islamic Revolution in 1979 and are still going ahead with their useless plots against the Islamic Republic.

Ayatollah Khamenei further called on Iranian authorities not to back down in the face of the United States, saying that the US will not reduce its enmity if Iran backs down further but, in fact, it will become more insolent.

Pointing to the US lack of commitment to its obligations under the 2015 nuclear deal between Tehran and world powers, the Leader said Washington is showing extreme wickedness to kill the JCPOA.

The 159-page nuclear agreement between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France, and Germany) was reached in July 2015 and came into force in January 2016.

Since the historic deal was signed in Vienna, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has repeatedly confirmed the Islamic Republic’s compliance with its commitments under the JCPOA (Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action), but some other parties, especially the US, have failed to live up to their undertakings.
