Bahrain Bans Circulation of Info about Civilians Tried in Military Courts
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Head of the Bahrain’s Military Judiciary said on Thursday that publishing any information about anti-regime civilians tried in military courts is prohibited.
Head of Bahrain's Military Judiciary Brigadier Yusuf Rashid Flaifel said that the High Military Court has issued a decision prohibiting the circulation of any information, data or news by any audio-visual, electronic or written media, BNA reported.
The King of Bahrain on April ratified the constitutional amendment allowing the military judiciary vast authorities, including trying civilians.
Bahraini authorities claim that this law has come to combat terrorism, yet it brings back the same approach of military courts upon which authorities tried people by virtue of the martial law imposed by the king in March 2011. This law was set to confront the vast protests calling against the Al Khalifa monopoly of power.
Bahrain, a close ally of the US in the Persian Gulf region, has been witnessing almost daily protests against the ruling Al Khalifa dynasty since early 2011, with Manama using heavy-handed measures in an attempt to crush the demonstrations.
Scores of Bahrainis have been killed and hundreds of others injured and arrested in the ongoing crackdown on the peaceful demonstrations.
