Official Urges Boost to Iran’s Cyber Defense Power

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Given the dynamic nature of the cyber space and cyber threats, Iran should make constant efforts to strengthen its capabilities and maintain preparedness for cyber warfare, a defense official said Sunday.

Addressing a conference in Tehran, Head of Iran’s Civil Defense Organization Brigadier General Gholam Reza Jalali said future wars would entail a military cyberspace, pointing to the US move to establish a cyber command.

Highlighting the rapid changes in the cyberspace and intelligent structures, the general stressed the need for up-to-date technologies for the Armed Forces, warning against the employment of the same weapons and equipment for a long time.

Last year, Iran’s Civil Defense Organization unveiled plans for developing a nationwide alarm system that would alert the country’s organizations to possible cyberattacks.

It came after a spate of cyberattacks against Iranian websites in June 2016.
