Saudi Reward for Arrest of Houthi Figures Draws Condemnation

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A major Yemeni political party hit back at the Saudi regime for offering a total reward of $440 million for the arrest of 40 Yemeni figures on charges of links with terrorist activities, saying the Al Saud itself is the main sponsor of terrorism in the world.

In a statement on Monday, the Yemeni party General People's Congress (GPC) condemned the Riyadh regime’s designation of 40 Yemeni figures, including Houthi officials, as sponsors of terrorism.

On Sunday, the Saudi kingdom announced a list of 40 names of Yemeni figures, accusing them of supporting terrorist activities, and offering a total reward of $440 million for any information leading to their arrest.

The highest reward -$30 million- will be given to anyone with information leading to the capture of the secretary general of Houthi Ansarullah movement Abdul-Malik Badreddin al-Houthi.

Elsewhere in the statement, the GPC branded the Saudi regime as the main sponsor and financial supporter of terrorism in Yemen and in the world.

The real terrorists are those who receive support and funds from the Saudi-led military campaign to carry out terrorist activities and bombings, the statement said.

Yemen’s defenseless people have been under massive attacks by the coalition for more than two and half years but Riyadh has reached none of its objectives in Yemen so far.

Since March 2015, Saudi Arabia and some of its Arab allies have been carrying out deadly airstrikes against the Houthi Ansarullah movement in an attempt to restore power to the former fugitive president.

Over 14,000 Yemenis, including thousands of women and children, have lost their lives in the deadly military campaign.
