Lebanon to Inflict Another Defeat on Saudis after Yemen: Iranian MP

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A senior Iranian lawmaker highlighted the Saudi regime’s plots against Lebanon and said Riyadh, which has been defeated in its war on Yemen, is seeking to sow discord among the Lebanese nation but its attempts will get nowhere.

Speaking to the Tasnim News Agency, spokesperson for the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Hossein Naqavi Hosseini said Saudi Arabia is trying to make up for its defeats in Yemen through undermining Lebanon.

“However, the evidence indicates that the Lebanese people and government will inflict another defeat on the Saudis,” he added.

The parliamentarian further said the Saudis think they can undermine Hezbollah through sowing discord among the Lebanese but the Riyadh regime’s plots against the Arab country will reach nowhere.

On November 10, Secretary-General of the Lebanese Hezbollah Resistance Movement Hassan Nasrallah warned about a new Saudi-Israeli plot in the region by forcing former prime minister Saad Hariri is to resign.

Nasrallah argued that Saudi officials have embarked on a campaign to flagrantly interfere in Lebanon’s domestic affairs.

Hariri, announced his resignation in a televised statement from Riyadh on November 4, citing many reasons, including the security situation in Lebanon.

He also said he sensed a plot being hatched against his life. Hariri blamed interference in Lebanon by Iran and Hezbollah Resistance Movement for his decision to quit, an allegation the two have repeatedly denied.

Reports say the Saudi regime had ordered Hariri to resign in an effort to destabilize Lebanon.

Saad Hariri is the son of former Lebanese prime minister Rafiq Hariri, who was assassinated in 2005. Hariri has also been the leader of the Future Movement party since 2005.

He became prime minister in 2016 after serving another term between November 2009 and June 2011.
