Iran Incredibly Loses to Iraq at FIBA Basketball World Cup Qualifier

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran national basketball team lost to Iraq at the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 Qualifiers on Friday.

In the match held at the Prince Hamza Arena, in Amman, Jordan, Iraqi team defeated Iran 74-66.

Naturalized player Demario Mayfield torched Iran for 24 points to go along with 10 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals in a scintillating display of skill. Hassan Abdullah and Ali Ismael also impressed for coach Mustafa Derin, tossing in 15 and 11 points respectively.

Farid Aslani had 16 points to lead Iran, which was missing key players Hamed Haddadi and Behnam Yakhchali.

Iraq's next assignment is Kazakhstan on 27 November in Astana, while Iran try to bounce back when it hosts Qatar at the Azadi Gym in Tehran.
