Cleveland Shooting Kills One Boy, Five Others Are Wounded
TEHRAN (Tasnim) - One boy was killed and five were wounded Friday night in a shooting on a commercial street in southeast Cleveland, and the US police were looking for an unknown number of suspects who “fired shots and took off running,” said Chief Calvin Williams.
The six victims ranged in age from 12 to 16, and the chief said he did not know the age of the boy who was killed. The other five required hospital treatment, Chief Williams said. Their conditions were unclear early Saturday, The New York Times reported.
The shooting occurred around 7:30 p.m., and Chief Williams and Mayor Frank Jackson said late Friday that they needed the public’s help to track the suspects.
“We know that as things happen out on the street, there is a lot of conversation,” Mayor Jackson said at a news conference that was broadcast on Cleveland-area television stations. “And we would like to have as much information as we can get in order to find who did this.”
Chief Williams said investigators believed the suspects were teenagers or younger, but said “we don’t know exactly what spurred this or what happened.”
He said there was no indication that the shooting was gang-related. “The only thing we have right now is that kids crossed paths and shots were fired,” the chief said.
