TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Hossein Baqeri said more than 10,000 Conex boxes will be used as temporary housing units for quake-hit people in the western province of Kermanshah by the next 45 days.

Speaking to reporters on Sunday during a visit to Kermanshah, Major General Baqeri said military organizations and units, particularly the Khatam al-Anbia Construction Base, a conglomerate belonging to the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), are providing quake-stricken people with temporary accommodations.

According to schedule, a total of 10,500 Conex boxes will be used as temporary housing units in the quake-hit areas by the next 45 days, the commander said.

He added that it has been planned to set up between 200 to 400 temporary shelters per day in the areas.

Director General of the Public Relations Department of the Defense Ministry also said on Sunday that 300 Conex boxes have been purchased at the behest of the defense minister and sent to Kermanshah.

In order to expedite reconstruction activities, the Iranian Army and IRGC forces are working hand in hand in the province.

A total of 483 people were killed and more than 9,000 others wounded in the 7.3 magnitude temblor that hit Iran-Iraq border areas on November 12.

According to President Hassan Rouhani, the earthquake has destroyed 11,000 rural houses and 4,500 urban dwellings in Kermanshah province.
