Iran’s FM, Afghan Official Mull Tehran-Kabul Cooperation against Terror

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Afghanistan Mohammad Mohaqiq weighed plans for closer cooperation between Tehran and Kabul in the fight against terrorism.

In a meeting in Tehran on Sunday, the top Iranian diplomat and the visiting Afghan official explored avenues for the enhancement of relations between the two neighbors.

Stressing the need for closer coordination in the battle against terrorist groups, the two officials also discussed the issues that a series of joint committees are dealing with.

Iranian officials have always voiced support for Afghanistan’s war against terrorism and extremism.

In 2016, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei said Iran regards peace and security in Afghanistan as its own.

In June 2017, Iran and Afghanistan held the first round of talks on a "comprehensive strategic partnership" document as part of efforts to boost bilateral relations.
