No Plan Can Change Islamic-Palestinian Nature of Quds: Hamas Official

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The representative of the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement in Tehran warned against the US government’s possible move to recognize al-Quds (Jerusalem) as the capital of the Israeli regime, saying no decision can change the Islamic-Palestinian nature of the city.

The possible move by US President Donald Trump to announce al-Quds the capital of the Israeli regime would be tantamount to a blatant violation of international law and UN resolutions that describe al-Quds as an occupied city, Khaled Qadoumi told the Tasnim News Agency.

This would be a clear act of aggression against the status of the city and Hamas warns about the move, the representative noted.

He went on to say that the Washington government is seeking to legitimize the occupation of al-Quds and cover up the fact that the city belongs to Palestinians and the Arab and Islamic world.

Several US media outlets reported on Friday that Trump plans to announce that al-Quds is the capital of Israel soon.

Jared Kushner, Trump's son-in-law, said no decision had yet been made.

Palestinian leaders have previously warned the move would threaten a two-state solution.

Israel has occupied East Jerusalem since the 1967 Middle East war. It annexed the area in 1980 and sees it as its exclusive domain. Under international law, the area is considered to be occupied territory.
