Plot against Yemen Nipped in Bud: IRGC Chief

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari hailed Yemeni forces’ success to nip a Saudi-led coup in the bud, saying it follows a series of successes in thwarting plots in the Kurdistan Region, in Syria and in Iraq.

In comments in Tehran on Tuesday, a day after the death of Ali Abdullah Saleh, Yemen’s overthrown president who abandoned the Houthi Ansarullah allies in favor of the Saudi-led military coalition that has been bombing Yemen since 2014, Major General Jafari praised Yemen’s success to foil the plot.

“By God’s grace, this plot (against Yemen) was nipped in the bud, like the scenario they had considered for (the Iraqi) Kurdistan to prepare a territory for the Zionist regime’s activities,” the commander said.

He also hailed the failure of seditious plots in Iraq and Syria.

“Today, we are witnessing so many successes,” he added, saying the nations of Syria, Yemen, and Bahrain, inspired by the experience of the Islamic Revolution, have stood against the global arrogance’s tyranny.

Blaming the Al Saud regime for playing a leading role in creating instability in those countries, the IRGC chief said such attempts are being supported and ordered by the US.

On Monday, Leader of Yemen’s Ansarullah movement, Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, said the movement has managed to thwart a major threat to the country’s security by defeating the plot hatched by former president, Saleh, and his militia.

Houthi said despite his early pretense about being opposed to the Saudi aggression, Saleh finally changed course and took sides with the aggressors.

Since March 2015, Saudi Arabia and some of its Arab allies have been carrying out deadly airstrikes against the Houthi Ansarullah movement in an attempt to restore power to fugitive former president Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, a close ally of Riyadh.

Over 14,000 Yemenis, including thousands of women and children, have lost their lives in the deadly military campaign.
