Iran Wins World Taekwondo Team Championships Title
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran claimed the title of the World Taekwondo Team Championships at the Palais de Sports de Treichville in Abidjan, Ivory Coast on Wednesday.
The Iranian team defeated China 58-51 in its first step and then defeated Nigeria 37-14. Host Ivory Coast withdrew from the competition and Iran qualified for the semi-final with three consecutive win.
Iran defeated South Korea 55-38 in the semis and beat Russia 34-33 in the final match.
Iran’s Mahdi “The Terminator” Khodabakhshi – marking a triumphant return to premier-league taekwondo after a long, post-Rio layoff – was named Male MVP.
Best Male Coach was Iran’s Seyed Nemat Khalifeh.
