Iran Walks into Asian Youth Para Games Opening Ceremony

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Team Iran marched into the opening ceremony in the 2017 Asian Youth Para Games Sunday night.

Iran’s 114-person delegation led by boccia woman athlete Zahra Balazadeh at the Dubai Club.

Over 800 athletes from 30 countries participate in the Games from Dec. 10 to 14 in Dubai.

Athletes under 20 years of age compete in 7 sports; powerlifting, table tennis, goalball, badminton, boccia, swimming and athletics.

The inaugural edition of this competition was held in Tokyo in 2009 and the second one was held in Kuala Lumpur in 2013.

In the first edition, Iran came second with 26 gold medals, 24 silvers and 18 bronzes.

In the second edition, Iran also became runner-up with 27 golds, 13 silvers and 19 bronzes.
