Fugitive Daesh Terrorists Keen on Moving to Afghanistan: Official

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A member of the Afghan president’s cabinet voiced concern about the presence of Daesh (ISIL) terrorists in his country, saying some 6,000 members of the terrorist group are eager to move to Afghanistan after fleeing Syria.

In an interview with the Tasnim News Agency, Feiz Mohammad Othmani, member of Afghan President Ashraf Ghani’s cabinet, warned against terrorist activities in his country by the remnants of Daesh.

The region is celebrating the demise of Daesh in Syria and Iraq, but all countries should remain vigilant and figure out where the Daesh militants have fled after surviving the war, he said.

Voicing concern about the fate of 5,900 Daesh members who fled their main stronghold in Syria’s Raqqa, Othmani said those fugitive terrorists are “undoubtedly” eager for a move into Afghanistan.

Lately, Afghan security forces have arrested 11 Daesh forces in the province of Logar, he added.

On November 19, Daesh terrorists were flushed out of their last stronghold in Syria’s Al-Bukamal. The city’s liberation marked an end to the group’s self-proclaimed caliphate it had declared in 2014.

Daesh militants made swift advances in northern and western Iraq over the summer of 2014, after capturing large areas of Syria.

Meanwhile, Iran’s Intelligence Minister Mahmoud Alawi raised the alarm on Tuesday about the Daesh terrorist group’s attempt to establish its self-proclaimed caliphate in Central Asia, Afghanistan and Pakistan after being flushed out of Iraq and Syria.

Although terrorist groups have received many serious blows and gotten frustrated, it is necessary to remain vigilant to prevent their rebirth, Alawi stressed.
