Iran Slams US Threats against Those Resisting Its ‘Thuggish Demands’

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif deplored the United States for trying to bully other countries into accepting Washington’s recent move on Quds (Jerusalem).

“Trump regime exposes contempt for democracy through its threats against those who dare resist its thuggish demands at the UN—all while Trump insults Iran crudely as ‘dictatorship’. US version of democracy stops at rhetoric of ‘either with us or against us’,” Zarif said in a post on his official Twitter account.

It came after US President Donald Trump’s threats to cut aid to countries that vote against his move on Quds at the UN General Assembly.

Earlier this week, Trump threatened to discontinue financial aid to countries that vote in favor of a draft UN resolution against his decision to recognize Quds as Israel’s capital.

Arab and Muslim states have requested that the 193-nation assembly hold an emergency special meeting on Trump’s decision on Quds, days after Washington used its veto power to block an Egypt-drafted resolution against the move at the UN Security Council.

Zarif’s tweet also made references to Trump’s insults against Iran during the announcement of his national security strategy.

During his speech on Monday, Trump repeated his allegations against Iran and North Korea, claiming that they are trying to “destabilize regions, threaten Americans and our allies, and brutalize their own people.”
