Neor Lake, A Beautiful Freshwater Body in Northwestern Iran

ARDABIL (Tasnim) - Neor Lake is located in a mountainous area 48km southeast of the Iranian northwestern city of Ardabil, in an altitude of 2700 meters above sea level, with an area of more than 220 Hectares.

It is composed of smaller and larger basins, which get connected in rainy seasons forming a single lake. It has an average depth of 3 meters and is fed by springs in the lake bed. The maximum depth reaches 5 meters.

The Neor Lake is the habitat of rainbow trout and birds such as Ruddy Shelduck and Migrant Swallows. The Qezel Ala fish (rainbow trout) of this lake is famous in the world.

Sports, fishing and other recreational activities are common and popular in this site. Every year fishing competitions are held in this area.
