US after ‘Watery’ Peace Plan in Palestine: Iranian Speaker

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani denounced the US president’s move to declare al-Quds (Jerusalem) capital of Israel as part of a plot to impose a “watery” peace plan to harm Palestine.

The recent decision by US President Donald Trump was a plot to carry out a watery peace process for damaging Palestine, Larijani said at an open session of the Parliament on Wednesday.

He also censured the US administration for opting for another dirty scenario after facing opposition from the international community and Muslim states.

The speaker also hailed a unanimous vote by the lawmakers earlier in the day obliging the Iranian administration to formally declare the holy city of Quds the permanent capital of Palestine.

Trump declared on December 6 that his administration would begin a years-long process of moving the American embassy in Tel Aviv to the city of Quds. The controversial decision drew widespread international condemnation and sparked protests across Palestine.

Palestinian leaders had previously warned the move would threaten a two-state solution.

Last week, 128 UN members defied US president and voted in favor of a resolution calling for the US to withdraw its decision to recognize al-Quds as the capital of Israel.

Israel has occupied East Quds since the 1967 Middle East war. It annexed the area in 1980 and sees it as its exclusive domain. Under international law, the area is considered to be occupied territory.
