Naft Tehran Stuns Persepolis before Empty Stadium

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran Professional League (IPL) struggling team Naft Tehran stunned pacesetter Persepolis football team on Friday.

Persepolis was forced to play in an empty stadium as punishment for fan controversial behavior in a match against Tractor Sazi last week.

Persepolis was the better team but despite dominating against Naft Tehran, a lack of cutting edge cost the team.

Branko Ivankovic’s team is top of the table with 41 points and Naft Tehran moved up one place to 14th by earning one point.

Elsewhere, Esteghlal was held to a goalless draw by Tractor Sazi in Tabriz, Saipa defeated Esteghlal Khuzestan 3-2 in Tehran, Zob Ahan edged past Paykan 2-1 in Isfahan, Sepidrood, who has appointed former Iran midfielder Ali Karimi as its new head coach, was defeated against Gostaresh Foolad 2-1 in Rasht and Padideh beat Sanat Naft 1-0 in Mashhad.
