Yemeni Forces Shell Saudi Positions in Najran, Asir
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Yemen’s artillery targeted the positions and gatherings of Saudi troops in the kingdom’s southwestern border regions of Najran and Asir, killing and injuring scores of them.
The Yemeni troops bombarded Saudi military bases in Eshah triangle in Najran, leaving a large group of soldiers dead and injured, a military source, speaking on the condition of anonymity, told Saba news agency on Monday.
In Asir, the artillery shelled gatherings of the Saudi soldiers and mercenaries in Mesyal valley and claimed the lives of dozens of them.
In a separate development, Yemeni forces targeted the positions of Saudi-backed mercenaries in Kulaba area of Taiz province, destroying a military vehicle.
The retaliatory attacks by Yemeni forces came after Saudi Arabia bombarded several civilian areas in the impoverished Arab country.
Since March 25, 2015, Saudi Arabia and some of its Arab allies have been carrying out airstrikes against the Houthi Ansarullah movement in an attempt to restore power to fugitive former president Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, a close ally of Riyadh.
Yemen’s Legal Center of Rights and Development has recently announced that the Saudi campaign has claimed the lives of over 12,040 Yemenis and left more than 20,000 others wounded.
