Iran’s Zob Ahan Beats Aizawl to Qualify for ACL Group Stage

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iran’s Zob Ahan qualified for the 2018 AFC Champions League group stage after a 3-1 victory over Indian champion Aizawl FC on Tuesday.

Mehdi Rajabzadeh found the back of the net from the penalty spot just three minutes into the match in Isfahan’s Fooladshahr Stadium.

Aizawl’s Romanian midfielder Andeir Ionescu scored in the 21st minute to level the match.

Despite the Indian side’s best efforts, Zob Ahan finally settled the tie with two Morteza Tabrezi headers in the final ten minutes.

The striker converted two crosses from Sayed Hosseini in the 83rd minute then in added time to seal a difficult win for the Iranian team.

Zob Ahan joined Qatar’s Al Duhail, UAE’s Al Wahda and Uzbekistan’s Lokomotiv Tashkent in group B of the 2018 AFC Champions League.
