Enemy Overplaying Shortcomings, Trying to Foment Despair in Iran: Official

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council warned of hostile schemes to exaggerate the country’s weaknesses and create disappointment among Iranians, calling for efforts to counter such negative propaganda by publicizing domestic accomplishments.

During a Wednesday visit to a non-governmental Iranian organization in Tehran, known as the Headquarters for Execution of Imam Khomeini's Order, Ali Shamkhani said the national movement to combat poverty and help underprivileged areas should be well publicized.

While revolutionary organizations in the Islamic Republic have modestly provided various services for underdeveloped areas, a lack of proper methods to inform people about those measures has allowed the enemies to launch a negative propaganda campaign, he deplored.

Pointing to Iran’s numerous achievements in the economic, social and cultural fields after victory of the Islamic Revolution in 1979, Shamkhani called for efforts to counter the “enemies’ soft move aimed at overplaying the weaknesses and pumping despair” into the Iranian society.

In comments in April 2017, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei cautioned that the adversaries are looking for economic weak points to harm the Iranian nation, calling on the authorities to push for implementing the Resistance Economy grand plan to thwart such plots.

“I expect the officials to try to correct economic deficiencies and close loopholes as they observe the enemy motive for exploitating the economic weak points,” Ayatollah Khamenei stressed.
