Enemy Creating New Groups to Upset Iran Security: Official
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – An Iranian intelligence official warned of a plot that the enemy has masterminded to create insecurity in Iran, citing new groups tasked with upsetting the country’s security.
Iran’s success to counter Daesh (ISIL) as well as the other regional and trans-regional terrorist groups has made the enemy think of creating new small groups to foment insecurity in Iran, Chief of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps’ Intelligence Organization Hossein Ta’eb told Tasnim on Sunday.
Pointing to the unrest that broke out in some Iranian cities in late December, the official said there is evidence that “notorious groups under the control of the main enemies” of Iran were tasked with hijacking the peaceful economic protests and tried to derail the public demands by inciting insecurity.
Such hostile measures will not go unanswered, Ta’eb stressed, saying the enemies will “receive a slap in the face” at the appropriate time.
In late December, peaceful protests over economic problems broke out in a number of Iranian cities, but the gatherings turned violent in some places when groups of participants, some of them armed, vandalized public property and launched attacks on police stations and government buildings.
Following the unrest, people held several demonstrations across the country to condemn the violent riots and acts of vandalism, and voice support for the Islamic Republic’s Establishment.
In comments after those events, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei said a tripartite plot was behind the violent unrest, referring to the US and Israel as one side of the triangle that masterminded the plot and worked on it for months.
