Yemeni Forces Shell Saudi Positions in Najran, Asir

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Yemen’s artillery targeted the positions and gatherings of Saudi troops in the kingdom’s southwestern border regions of Najran, Jizan and Asir, killing and injuring scores of them.

Artillery unit of the Yemen army and Popular Committees on Monday shelled Saudi soldiers’ gatherings and their military vehicles in Shamikh center in Jizan, a military official told Saba News Agency on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the artillery unit of Yemeni forces targeted gatherings of Saudi soldiers in Makhroq and Shurfah sites as well as Ajasher site located near the Aleeb Mountains and Boqea camp in Najran.

In another development, the Yemeni army and Popular Committees targeted Saudi soldiers’ gatherings and mercenaries at Alab crossing in the Asir province.

The retaliatory attacks by Yemeni forces came after Saudi Arabia bombarded several civilian areas in the impoverished Arab country.

Since March 25, 2015, Saudi Arabia and some of its Arab allies have been carrying out airstrikes against the Houthi Ansarullah movement in an attempt to restore power to fugitive former president Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, a close ally of Riyadh.

Yemen’s Legal Center of Rights and Development has recently announced that the Saudi campaign has claimed the lives of over 12,040 Yemenis and left more than 20,000 others wounded.
