Iran Releases 8 Indian Fishermen: Report

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Indian fishermen, who were held captive in Iran for crossing territorial waters, have been released by Iranian officials, a report said.

Almost four months after they were detained by Iran’s Coast Guard for infringing into Iran’s waters, eight Indian fishermen out of 15 from Tamil Nadu returned home on Wednesday, My Times reported on Thursday.

Around 15 fishermen from Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli and Thoothukudi districts had gone to Dubai in May last year and were employed in fishing boats there.

On October 22 last year, the Iranian Navy arrested the fishermen for straying into their waters.

Six fishermen are expected to be released very soon and a fisherman reached India earlier.
