Iran’s Zarif, Bulgarian Economy Minister Meet in Sofia

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and Bulgarian Minister of Economy Emil Karanikolov exchanged views about ways to boost bilateral trade between the two countries.

Meeting in Sofia on Wednesday, Zarif and Karanikolov discussed various issues, including problems facing Iranian cargo trucks entering Bulgaria.

Banking cooperation between Iran and Bulgaria, transit corridors, tourism cooperation, creation of a joint fund for protecting the private sectors of the two countries, and formation of a joint energy committee were among other topics discussed in the meeting.

Zarif started his tour of the Balkans on Monday in a bid to boost relations between the Islamic Republic and countries in the Eastern European region.

After visiting Serbia and Bulgaria, Zarif is going to pay official visits to Croatia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina to hold talks with senior officials of the Balkan countries.

A high-ranking political and economic delegation, including a number of Iranian entrepreneurs from the public and private sectors, are accompanying the top diplomat.
