Commander Urges Speedy Punishment for Murderer of Police Forces in Tehran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The individual behind a recent mob attack north of the Iranian capital that killed three police forces will hopefully stand trial and be punished in coming days, Tehran’s Police Chief Brigadier General Hossein Rahimi said.

In remarks released on Thursday, Brigadier General Rahimi expressed the hope that with the coordination between the Judiciary and police, the criminal who drove a bus into a group of Law Enforcement officers and killed three of them in a recent attack in northern Tehran would be executed by the end of the current Iranian year (March 20).

He added that the process of the trial has been expedited in a bid to relieve the pain and suffering of the bereaved families of the martyred forces.

During clashes on Pasdaran Street north of Tehran on February 19, one rioter drove a bus into a group of police officers, killing three and wounding a number of others.

In a separate attack, one member of the Basij (Mobilization) Force was run over and killed, while another was stabbed to death.

Police spokesperson said 30 police forces were injured and many public and private properties were destroyed in the riot.

The security forces were trying to quell a disturbance involving Gonabadi Dervishes, a Sufi community in Iran.

In comments after the attack, Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Hossein Baqeri said the security forces will harshly counter violent law-breaking to prevent a recurrence of the recent mob attack.
