Zarif, Turkish MP Meet in Tehran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A senior Turkish lawmaker held talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on the bilateral, regional and international issues.

In their meeting in Tehran on Monday, the Iranian foreign minister and Chairman of the Committee of Foreign Affairs of Turkish Parliament Volkan Bozkir discussed a range of issues, including Iran-Turkey relations and regional developments.

They also talked about the situation in Syria, Iraq, and Afghanistan, and voiced support for the Astana peace process on Syria, collective action against terrorism, and support for Palestine.

Back in December, high-ranking officials from Iran and Turkey signed a roadmap to closer cooperation in various security fields, including efforts to boost border control and counter money laundering.

The roadmap was signed at the conclusion of the second session of a joint working group of interior ministry officials in Ankara.

Iran and Turkey have ramped up efforts in recent months to boost bilateral trade since the implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany).
