Spokesman Rejects Saudi-Egyptian Allegations against Iran as ‘Groundless’

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi dismissed recent anti-Tehran claims made by Saudi Arabia and Egypt as “groundless and bogus” and said the accusations have their roots in the countries’ inability to deal with realities in the Middle East.

Qassemi on Wednesday condemned a recent Saudi-Egyptian statement in which they have accused Iran of interference in Arab countries’ internal affairs and said such accusations are “groundless, bogus and an insistence on the past harmful mistakes”.

The Islamic Republic of Iran believes that the repetition of the baseless allegations indicates an inability on the part of the two Arab countries to deal with the realities of the region and the world, he said.

“…Iran has always regarded neighboring countries as a top priority in its foreign policy and has been making efforts to help resolve regional conflicts, promote convergence (in order for) the establishment of security and stability in the region,” the spokesman went on to say.

The remarks came a day after the joint Saudi-Egyptian statement, part of which accused Iran of interference in the internal affairs of Arab countries.

The statement was issued as Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman visited Cairo on his first official trip abroad since becoming crown prince.
