Iranian Navy Commander Meets Foreign Military Delegations in Tehran


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Navy Commander Rear Admiral Hossein Khanzadi held talks with senior military commanders from Russia, China, Turkey, and Bangladesh on developing bilateral cooperation.

Rear Admiral Khanzadi on Monday held separate meetings with the commander of the Bangladesh Navy, the lieutenant commander of the Turkish Navy, the commander of the southern fleet of the Russian Navy, and the head of the Chinese military delegation.

During the talks, the sides exchanged views about ways to boost defense cooperation in various fields.

The meetings were held on the sidelines of the  Indian Ocean Naval Symposium (IONS) 2018 that opened in Tehran on Monday.

The naval symposium began with high-ranking military officials and navy commanders from 35 countries in attendance.

During the conference, Iran officially assumed the presidency of the symposium for two years.

The IONS is a voluntary initiative that seeks to increase maritime co-operation among navies of the littoral states of the Indian Ocean Region by providing an open and inclusive forum for discussion of regionally relevant maritime issues.

There are 32 Navies of the IONS - 23 members and 9 observers.
