Commander: Iran Detecting Aerial Threats Beyond Borders

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran has acquired such advanced homegrown air defense equipment that it can detect and counter threats far beyond its boundaries, a top commander said.

Iran’s Air Defense is capable of detecting any hostile move outside the borders, Lieutenant Commander of Khatam al-Anbia Air Defense Base General Ali Reza Sabahi-Fard said Sunday.

The Air Defense is now producing whatever equipment it needs for detection, tracking or interception, the commander added, stressing that Iran does not look for any foreign weapon to ensure its security.

He described Iranian air defense gear as comparable with or even better than the foreign equipment.

Iranian military experts and technicians have in recent years made great headways in manufacturing a broad range of indigenous equipment, making the armed forces self-sufficient in the arms sphere.

During a military parade this month, Iran’s Air Defense unveiled a new homegrown missile system, dubbed Kamin-2, used for hitting aerial targets flying at low altitudes.

In comments in February, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei called for efforts to maintain and boost Iran’s defense capabilities, hitting back at the enemies for disputing the country’s missile program.
