Turkey’s Ruling Party Nominates Erdogan as Presidential Candidate
TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Turkey’s ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) has nominated acting President Recep Tayyip Erdogan as a candidate for the presidential election that will be held on June 24.
Dogan News Agency reported on Thursday that the AKP’s parliamentary faction made this decision after voting. Erdogan’s candidacy was backed by 316 MPs, that is all party members in the parliament, TASS news agency reported.
Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said in his speech in the parliament that on Friday the AKP and the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) that allied with it would complete work on candidates’ lists and officially submit it with the central election commission for approval.
The early parliamentary and presidential elections will be held on June 24 in Turkey. After that amendments introducing an executive presidential system will officially come into force in the country.
