Iranian Musician Naser Cheshmazar Dies at 68

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian songwriter, composer and instrumentalist Naser Cheshmazar passed away at the age of 68 on Friday.

The renowned and popular musician died at a hospital in Tehran on Friday morning after suffering a heart attack.

Born on December 31, 1950 in Iran’s northwestern city of Ardabil, Naser Cheshmazar initially learnt music from his father Esmail, and started to play with a folk music band in the national radio when he was only 12.

Naser traveled to the United States to learn jazz at age 20. He and his older brother Manouchehr came into limelight before victory of the Islamic Revolution in 1979 by writing and composing many songs for the Iranian singers.

After the revolution, Naser stayed in Iran and became a sophisticated movie songwriter who won several national and international awards.

The prolific musician was a two-time award winner for best movie song in two editions of the International Fajr Film Festival in Iran, and was also given the award in Malaysia’s film festival for the movie “Lonely Sisters”.
