Iranian, Omani Officials Discuss Broader Military, Police Cooperation
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Military delegations from Iran and Oman held the 14th meeting of a joint commission for talks on the enhancement of cooperation between the military and police forces of the two countries.
In the first round of the talks in Tehran on Saturday morning, military officials from Iran and Oman discussed the process of implementation of bilateral agreements and plans to boost military and law enforcement cooperation between the armed forces of the two neighbors.
In the gathering, head of the Iranian delegation, General Qadir Nezami, hailed the expansion of military ties between Tehran and Muscat.
He also warned that the political and military situation of the region and the Muslim world has a “worrying trend.”
The Iranian general further referred to the US and Saudi support for Takfiri terrorism and the alliance that some Arab states, like Saudi Arabia, have made with Israel as the two main reasons behind crises and division in the region.
General Nezami also underscored that Iran has an inalienable right to protect its interests and security by maintaining and developing its military power, adding, “We will vigorously respond to any threat from the enemies.”
For his part, head of the Omani delegation called for negotiated solution to disputes among Muslims and regional countries.
Apart from the joint military commission, the visiting Omani delegation will hold meetings with a number of Iranian military officials and commanders.
Within the next few days, the two countries are going to hold a joint naval rescue and relief operation in the Persian Gulf waters that would include the Iranian Navy, the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), Iran’s Border Police, the Royal Navy of Oman, and the Royal Oman Police.
