Iran Journalists Association Slams French Police Violence against Media Persons
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The head of the Association of Iranian Journalists said it plans to lodge a protest against the French police for injuring an Iranian correspondent and his cameraman who were covering a recent protest in Paris.
“Unfortunately, the French police, in an inhumane move, have attacked an Iranian correspondent and a cameraman alongside French protesters,” Mohammad Mehdi Dani told the Tasnim News Agency.
“We will voice our protest in a letter to the French embassy in Tehran,” he added.
“As the Association of Iranian Journalists, we condemn the French police’s move and call on the international community not to keep silent about the inhumane behaviors of the French police and government,” he said, adding that violence against protesters and journalists is not acceptable.
Two media crew of the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) covering anti-government protests in Paris were heavily injured by the French police and taken to hospital on Tuesday.
Speaking to Tasnim on Wednesday, Zeinol Abedin Shahsavar Hosseini, the IRIB correspondent in Paris who had been admitted to hospital after inhaling tear gas during the demonstrations, said he had been discharged from the hospital several hours after the incident.
“The incident that happened to me and my colleague was really tough, so much so that we did not think we would survive it,” he added.
He also said the French police should respect the international regulations about media activities.
