Iran Runner-Up at World Team Table Tennis Championships Second Division
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran finished runner-up at the 2018 World Team Table Tennis Championships second division on Sunday.
Team Melli lost to Hungary 3-2 in the final match on Sunday.
Two teams had previously advanced to the first division.
In group stage, Iran defeated Puerto Rico 3-0 (3-0,3-0,3-0), lost to Kazakhstan 2-3 (3-0,1-3,3-0,2-3,1-3), edged past USA 3-2 (2-3,3-0,0-3,3-1,3-0), defeated Spain 3-0 (3-1,3-2,3-2), and finally beat Luxemburg 3-0 (3-1,3-0,3-1) in its last match.
In the quarter-final, Iran defeated the Netherlands 3-0 and won Ukraine 3-1 in semi-final.
In the first division, defending champion China claimed its ninth consecutive title at men's final.
The 2018 World Team Table Tennis Championships took place in Halmstad, Sweden from April 29 to May 6.
