Iran Cuts Reliance on Imported Gasoline: IRGC General

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - The second phase of a large refinery constructed in southern Iran by an entity affiliated with the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps has come on stream, making the country self-sufficient in gasoline production, an IRGC general said.

Speaking at a press conference on the sidelines of an international oil exhibition in Tehran, General Ebadollah Abdollahi, commander of Khatam al-Anbia Construction Base said the second phase of the Persian Gulf Star gas condensate refinery has been launched in recent days.

The coming into operation of the new phase has made Iran self-sufficient in gasoline production, he added, saying such success has been achieved by using homegrown equipment which make up more than 70 percent of the refinery’s structure.

The daily output of gasoline at the Persian Gulf Star refinery has reached 22 million liters, the commander explained, saying the facility processes 240,000 barrels of gas condensates every day.

According to General Abdollahi, completion of the refinery would turn Iran into an exporter of gasoline.

The first phase of the refinery was launched in April 2017. Its input, namely gas condensates, are supplied through a pipeline stretching for nearly 400 kilometers from gas refineries in Assalouyeh, located in the province of Bushehr.

Officials describe the Persian Gulf Star as the world’s largest refinery in terms of area.
