Iranian MPs Set Fire to JCPOA After US Exit (+Video)

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A number of Iranian lawmakers set fire to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in the parliament on Wednesday in a symbolic gesture of protest against the US president’s decision to pull his country out of the 2015 Iran nuclear deal.

The nuclear pact, achieved in 2015 after more than two years of extensive negotiations, was set ablaze in an open session of the parliament this morning, hours after US President Donald Trump announced Washington’s withdrawal from the JCPOA.

The lawmakers also set fire to the flag of the US at the parliament while chanting death to America slogans.

In a speech from the White House on Tuesday, Trump accused Iran of sponsoring terrorism and seeking nukes before announcing the US withdrawal from the nuclear deal.

Following the controversial decision, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said Iran weighs plans to remain in the agreement with the other five parties, namely Russia, China, Britain, France and Germany, provided that the remaining JCPOA parties ensure its full benefits for Iran.
